With the assistance of the da Vinci robot, Dr Howlett uses special tools to make small incisions, one of them being a tiny camera that provides 3D images, which he magnifies up to 10 times their actual size. This allows Dr Howlett to see what is going on more clearly, to direct his tools more precisely, and to potentially save more healthy tissue. Robotic surgery is particularly helpful for complex surgeries in small spaces.
